Surely, at some point everyone has been in the situation when you really need your phone and the battery is flashing the dreaded 1%. You feel the slight wave of panic creep through your body as you realise you will not have the security of your phone until you get home. Alternatively, you are at home using the phone and the wall plug is 10 feet away and your charge cable is only 3 feet long. Well, these dilemmas are now a thing of the past with the wide range of power banks that are currently available, this one from Aukey is certainly one you need to take for a ride.

First impressions of the Aukey PB-T1 External Battery raised the initial expectations I had before the box was opened. From the brushed metal exterior that feels nice in hand and gives you an immediate feel of quality to its small compact size, I instinctively knew that this power bank had become the one I would take everywhere with me.

The 10400 mAh power capacity provides enough power for me to keep my phone fully charged on the run for a few days. You can expect about 3 full charges from this power bank (phone dependent). Which is perfect if you have a few packed days or are planning a weekend away and need the security of a back up battery.

Having tried this power bank on various phones and tablets the charge speed has been impressive. Although the power bank has Qualcomm 2.0 quick charge technology (Click here for a list of compatible devices) which states it can reduce charge time by 75% with compatible devices this power bank was also tested with devices that did not have this technology built in to see how it would compare.

The Qualcomm charging was exceptionally fast which was expected and charged the test phone a good amount in just a few minutes. A timed charge test was also performed on a HTC One without the Qualcomm Quick Charge feature and the power bank delivered 4% in five minutes whilst all WiFi, location services and data was still running. Based on the normal charging time of this phone it was quite impressive that it achieved this charge with everything else going on and the fact it wasn’t plugged into the mains.

Upon opening the box the power bank came fully charged which is always a bonus. The metal construction gives you peace of mind that the power bank is well built and the quality of the construction is evident.

Once the phone etc is connected to the power bank via the supplied USB cable you simply press the button on the power bank to start the charge process.

There are four blue lights on the device and each represent a 25% charge on the power bank. So when all four are displayed the bank is 100% charged when two are displayed 50% charge etc. This is a really handy indicator as you will always be aware of the portable power available to you but also a great indication of when the device needs recharging.

Recharging the device is simple enough. You would charge it in exactly the same way that you would charge your phone via USB and a wall socket.

The size and weight of this device puts it into the portable category. I have some power banks with the same battery power that are twice the size and weight. At a weight of just over 270g the power bank is heavier than a standard mobile but not so much that it will weigh down the bag or pocket it is carried in. In fact it is lighter than the previous one I use that has been in current rotation. The size is also an added bonus at approximately 4 inch x 3 inch it could easily fit in a pocket if need be however, more than likely you would keep this in a bag of some sort.

This device comes with everything you need to keep you connected and powered up. The power bank itself, a USB charge cable and a user manual. Couple this with the 24 month warranty provided by Aukey and at the current price of £9.99 it will probably be the best tenner you would spend this month.

This charger comes highly recommended. It looks good, provides and exceptional charge performance and is portable enough to keep with you as all power banks should be. Aukey have created an exceptional product here and you surely will not be disappointed.
